Last updated 10 September 2026

IsMyUrlSafe is a free set of safety checkers. It is built so that using it reveals as little about you as possible: there is no account, no adverts and no tracking, and the things you paste in are not kept in a form that identifies you.

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up, nothing to install.
  • No adverts, and nothing you check is sold or shared for marketing.
  • Messages and QR code images are not stored in a readable form.
  • Link checks leave only a short, domain-only record — for exampleexample.com, never the full address or anything after it — kept for about 30 days.
  • The only thing stored in your browser is your choice of light or dark mode.

What you type into the checkers

A link or web address. The address is checked against continuously updated records of sites reported for phishing, malware, fraud and other abuse, and the page is never opened from your device. Afterwards, a domain-only note of the check is kept for a short time so the service can run and improve — that note is the registered domain and the verdict only (example.com,safe), with the path, query string and any codes or tokens discarded before it is written.

The text of a message. The wording is analysed for the patterns common to scams, with extra review of borderline cases. The message itself is not stored in a readable form, and it is not linked to you.

A QR code image. The picture is read to pull out the web address inside it; the image is not uploaded or stored. Only the address it contains is then checked, exactly like any other link.

What is kept, and for how long

A domain-only record of link checks — the registered domain and the verdict, nothing more — is kept for about 30 days and then removed. It exists so the checkers stay accurate and so repeated checks of the same site can be answered quickly. It does not contain the full URL, your name, your email address or anything that identifies you.

Messages and QR code images are not retained after the check is returned.

Technical information

Like almost any website, the servers that run IsMyUrlSafe briefly process limited technical information about each request — such as a shortened network address and the type of request being made — to keep the service available and to stop abuse and automated overuse. This information is not used to build a profile of you or to identify you, and it is not sold or shared for marketing.

Cookies and tracking

There are no advertising or analytics cookies and no third-party trackers. Your browser stores a single preference — whether you chose the light or dark theme — so the site remembers it on your next visit. Clearing your browser storage removes it.

Other services

IsMyUrlSafe runs on infrastructure provided by reputable hosting and security companies that process requests on its behalf so the checkers can work and stay online. They act only as service providers and are not permitted to use anything from your checks for their own purposes.

Children

IsMyUrlSafe is a general-audience safety tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information about anyone, regardless of age.

Your choices

Because the checkers do not ask for your name or email address and the only check record is domain-only and short-lived, there is very little personal data to correct or remove. If you have a question about what a record contains, or a concern about how the service handles your information, contact us and we will look into it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date at the top of the page will change with it. Significant changes will be described in plain language rather than buried in edits.
